Smoking plummeted from 1965 to 2007 among the heaviest users in the United States, especially in California, according to a new study led by veteran UC San Diego smoking researcher John Pierce. The drop in “high-intensity” smoking Dunhill, defined as 20 (one pack) or more cigarettes a day, helps explain declines in lung-cancer deaths, according to the study, published Wednesday in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
Teen Use Of Menthol Cigarettes On the Rise
The use of menthol cigarettes like Kiss cigs is rising among adolescents and is “very high” among minority youth, a Food and Drug Administration advisory panel said in partial draft report released Monday. The Tobacco Products Scientific Advisory Committee could make a recommendation about whether menthol flavoring should be banned. The panel’s report is due next week.

New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu usually welcomes national attention of New Orleans, but not by a cigarette company. One campaign ad has him fuming. The ad that shows Joe Camel in front of New Orleans which actually read “N’Awlins” and other things like “where voodoo queens preside” and “party people get down.” Mayor Landrieu doesn’t like the campaign at all and so he wrote a letter to R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company.
